New artist Babe Roots touch down on ZamZam Sounds with two cuts of Basic Channel / Chain Reaction-influenced dubwise heaters.

Both tracks here are full of the kind of profoundly cavernous space that made those early dub techno records such classic, Babe Roots taking that rubric and applying it to more contemporary dub styles. A side Be Still blurs the line between reggae and techno, a shuffling one-drop and massive skank on the up-beat colliding gracefully with rich, delayed dub-techno chords that unfurl and bloom into an organic layer of warm harmonic content.

The B side Rawness applies the same idea as Be Still, but this time applying the techno stylings to a polyrhythmic dubstep beat – here the chords are treated almost like a bassline, filtered into snarling contortions that burst through the spaces between the monolithic drums with restrained ferocity. The B side is definitely the cut to go for – a versatile and unique cut that’s equally suited to home listening as it is sending the dancefloor into a frenzy.

This should go in a flash – be quick on the buttons if you want one!
