Another killer reissue of a rarity, from Earth Sound –
For the fifth instalment of crucial crate digging from the 10″ imprint, comes this version of the 1979 Manu Diabango classic, this time with Brent Dowe, the Ex Melodians singer, on vocals and The Gaytones on instruments.
The original, ‘Soul Makoosa’ came out in 1972 and is a proper afro funk classic, from Manu Diabango, the saxophonist and songwriter from Cameroon.
The Brent Dowe cuts came out a year later, in 1973, on a limited 7″ pressing on the Studio One offshoot ‘Gay Feet’, taking things in JA rooted direction, slowing the pace and marrying the afrobeat with the rocksteady.
Earth Sound have thankfully given this one the reissue treatment, nicely pressed on a single sided 10″ with two cuts – Soul Masooka followed by Reggae Masooka.
Hand-stamped and cut to red vinyl.
Served in yellow paper sleeve and white inner sleeve.
