A very welcome return to Hessle from Bruce.
The immensely talented producer twisted our brains right up last year with releases on Livity Sound and Hessle, his freewheeling approach to track structure and enviable sound design skills left us desperate for more. Thankfully the Hessle lot have snapped up three more tracks for thirsty ears and they’re just as vital as the last one.
Up top is the killer juxtaposition of muscular kick drums and loose swing backed by ferric chords and scorching lead melody of ‘Steals’, constantly evolving and chock full of edits, there’s nobody else that sounds quite like Bruce.
Flip it for the clipped and submerged hip-hop and dub mutations of ‘Relevant Again’ – Illbient meets On-U-Sound kinda vibes are the order of the day here, utterly unique and deeply engrossing listening. Blown out and fractured quartz fragments refract light beams for the epic closer ‘Petal Pluck’, a fave around these parts and one we are very pleased to be able to finally own on wax.
