The first in a series of remix discs, re-imagining cuts from Dubkasm’s recent Rastrumentals LP!
Pressed up on high-grade 10″, mastered via 1/2 inch tape by Lewis at Stardelta, this cut comes loaded with a proper icey dancehall remix by off-kilter dubwise duo E3 (of ZamZam fame) and Alter Echo (the mixing desk wizard!) from Portland.
A myriad of echoes and reverb chambers criss-cross the sparse, but tougher-than-tough drum section in oblique dancehall style – a knock-out concoction of soundsystem dread, and sure to a very good kind of damage to your local speakerbox.
Side B comes courtesy of recent Bristol arrival Om Unit.
His remix of LP opener ‘Eco do Jongo’, dives deep into dub territory, its ethereal, stripped-back nyabinghi drumming, crystallised synths, and a slipstream of horns bringing Ras B’s righteous message to the fore… Underpinned by lashings of sub bass and warm & woozy chords –
it’s a real meditative piece that will restore the calm and focus in any situation, and will clear the palette very nicely in a DJ set of any kind – dubwise or clubwise.
A killer combination, and a great piece for the collection.
Dubkasm & the worldwide music connection for life!
