It’s been 3 years since the Kode9 and Spaceape put a record out and the ‘Killing Season EP’ is a 5 tracker that was most certainly worth waiting for. Spaceape has refined his vocal delivery even further, becoming, switching his syntax effortlessly, evolving from his previous, almost spoken word delivery. His lyrical rhythm perfectly matches the staccato beats from Kode9, 5 tracks that soak up influence from across the board, Dancehall, Jungle and trap have all left feint traces on this ep, all genres that are built for lyricists, yet this concoction transcends any preconceived ideas you may have of any of them and rises into the most accomplished work from Spaceape and Kode9.

There are references to previous works here, the closing track ‘Autumn Has Come’ is pure sine wave bass and dread filled lyrics, not a million miles away from the now classic, ‘Sine Of The Dub’.

the ‘Killing Season EP’ is crucial documentation of a decades worth of works from two extremely gifted artists, one that demands repeated listening.
