Two absolute belters from the man like Mikael – hitting up the latest Innamind in fine style.
Mikael is quickly gaining a reputation for producing the new wave of Mariana Trench-depth cuts, following down a similar path to co-conspirator and label-mate Las.
Wildfire occupies the scorching A side, a 5 minute journey through dread-heavy stepwise bassweight. The recent trend of reggae and dub-influenced bass music is often done wrong, but this is a perfect example of how it’s done nice and proper – dark and full of throwback ear-candy all floating on top of a bedrock of hard-as-nails sub frequency.
Lintumies on the B side is the real winner here, hands down. Sounding like a spiritual successor to Karma’s Flee in the Fog, anguished wails of resonant frequencies provide a menacing counterpoint the frantic sub line, all the while Mikael keep things rolling and hard with a near-perfect drum track.
