Alix Perez opens his very own 1985 label up to fresh new talent with Toulouse-based newcomer, Monty.

Having received heavy radio support from Alix himself as well as Spectrasoul and Noisia, this four tracker bridges a still-to-be explored gap between the sonic landscapes of classically informed DnB and the current wave of minimal, techy stepping excursions spearheaded by the likes of Skeptical et al.

All four tracks combine the sense of space of the latter with immaculately produced rhythm sections. A side Hold Me Back sees Monty employ the talents of vocalist Benabu, who brings an emotive touch to the hard-as-nails instrumental. B side Spongy Conversation uses similar tropes, but subverts the emotional heft implied in the vocal with pulses of detuned bassline, rippling the musical surface with an off-kilter sense of unease and dissonance.

Big ups to Alix Perez for the talent-spot here!
