Porn Sword Tobacco, the left-field alias of Swedish producer Hendrik Jonsson, presents four untitled, extended tracks across 2 pieces of fresh vinyl on Dynamo Dreesen’s Acido imprint.

The mood is set in the opener – a lush, harmony-driven ambient number that establishes the entire album’s sense of atmosphere and space. Jonsson breaks up the core musical ideas with samples from nature which remain distinct from each other initially but over the course of each track slowly blend and blur into one another.

There are some surprising sonic references scattered here; the rhythmic and sonic palettes of contemporary uk producers like Ploy, alongside some of the dreamier elements of the LA Beat Scene and Brainfeeder collective – Teebs’ hazy, sun-kissed beats come to mind first.

Dancefloor DJs will favour track 2 – opening with gorgeous ambience before giving way to a broken-beat rhythmic pattern painted with shimmering, effervescent pads and bird-song – Jonsson allows the track to unfold ever-so-slowly, making every subtle shift seem like its own momentous victory.

We expected a lot from Porn Sword Tobacco’s first solo one in over 2 years, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. If this doesn’t catch a new audience, we don’t know what will. Intoxicatingly brilliant.
