Bristol’s own Silver Waves comes smashing through your speaker stack with this bruiser of a debut vinyl release, a split release between Bristols’s Howling Owl and Portals Editions from Berlin.

The yung noise merchant, Silver Waves has been under the Howling Owl wing for a minute now, dropping a couple of cassettes and terrorising venues with his incendiary live performances – coaxing abrasive and densely layered cuts of staccato kick rolls and tinnitus inducing noise out of a table full of gear. This record is as close as it gets to capturing one of those performances (described as ‘seriously uncomfortable’ in one (complimentary)review), on vinyl.

Making links between Vatican Shadow/Prurient, Pan Sonic (RIP) and the outreaches of breakcore, the two original cuts on the topside are as rugged and captivatingly beautiful as the igneous rock the artist takes his name from.

Things come into shape even further on the flip. Continuing the Bristol links, Giant Swan and Ossia are drafted in to re-interpret the the originals. Up first is the BEB/Young Echo gang member Ossia who flips it inna dread techno style – off-beat percussion, cast-iron snares and hammer drill bass, there’s many layers at work that have been excavated & twisted from the original, combined into this propulsive trip, pocked by jagged breaks and sinister siren tails. As dread as it gets.

Fcuk Punk affiliates and fellow noise brokers Giant Swan complete the package, fresh off that killer ‘Earn/Corridor’ outing and get down to business – Pile driving kicks and anvil weight snares frame the snarling washes of the original, turn your back on this one and it’ll bite your bollock$ off.
