Israli pair Ori Itshaki & Doron Mastey Charly come together as TV.OUT for a tape of primitive but powerful techno. Released by the Russian label Isiah Tapes, ‘Shedim’ brings eyes down, rotating grooves to the forefront. Frills are stripped down to a minimum and the hardware equipment provides a forceful, dynamic sound. The duo’s skills are showcased at their best on ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’, the nihilistic title is reflected in the monochrome sound palette, while playful rhythms are mapped out over a sludgy kick. It’s music for dark warehouses, late at night, with a big soundsystem.
Another highlight of the tape is the anomaly ‘Love Song’, the bleak and distorted sounds of the rest of the EP are replaced with lush pads and spiralling arpeggios. While the synth-scape feels slightly out of place, it justifies its place on the release in terms of its quality, a real treat. The package comes with classy design work from 4th Movement and a bright pink tape!
