Opal Tapes [OPAL025]

New 12″ on Opal Tapes –

Industrial strength sonic precision assault by Yves De Mey, following on from releases on Sandwell District and Line. Taking a sidestep from his collaborative project with Peter Van Hoesen as Sendai, this record showcases a patient eye for detailed sound design and delightfully precise manipulation.

Fractured remnants of square and sine waves are intertwined in shadows of white noise, a dooming sense of movement engulfs the sonic aura, constantly shifting.

Apart from the perhaps more apparent rhythmical structure in ‘Eye Splice’ and it’s distant, almost consistent thud and filtered frequencies that suggest a pattern not far from techno, we are left to make our own pace and tempo to a soundscape which shreds the proportions with huge amounts of space, dense and electrified.

Deeply involving, expertly crafted.

This one’s for the heads.
