ST AGNIS - ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ
Special delivery from the 5 Gate Temple.
St. Agnis at the controls this time, dubbed onto tape via John T. Gast's 5 Gate Temple imprint, this one sees St. Agnis charging out of the speakerbox with 6 wickedly unhinged, tape-saturated, fully-funked pieces of body music, drum jams and rhythm trippers.
There's a kind of early detroit techno rawness at play here - throughout the tracks there is a sense of toughness not far away from early grime styles either, yet the ultimate effect is funky, and highly psychedelic, with drexciyan fast-paced drums and arpeggiating synthesis dancing in the wormhole, guided by muffled vocals and de-tuned harmonics -
The tracks are often short, no fvcks given energy blasts - by the time you've found the groove and got lost inside, a new door opens with the next track... Quick moments of sadness that the track is over, are interchanged with the excitement of the next cut blasting in with a sense of 10/10 energy, and perfectly paranoid euphoria -
end result: addictive!
Soundsystem freaks, grime and tekno headz, and all open-minded dancers out there, I think you might want to get the wheels in motion for these tapes to arrive at your doorstep pronto...
