Jaw-droppingly funky, perfectly weird and all-encompassing masterpiece made up of nearly lost 'new age / dub / jazz / steppers / techno / post punk / whatever' traxx from the legendary Yasuaki Shimizu... Wow, this one's really, very special.

One of the best records we've heard in a long while, this one - and yet the tracks were made around 1984 - hard to believe these never got released until now...serious gems inside.

Consisting of previously unreleased cuts from Yasuaki's Shimizu's studio circa 1984, and made around the time of some of his classic albums back then, but with a more dance orientated, up for it attitude. This record has everything from heavy dub attitude to post punk, new wave, ambient, jazz, and a certain japanese approach to sound and synthesis, all in that unique, inventive early style of Shimizu's. It's really quite a magical combination of far-out sounds and intriguing, highly detailed production technique and song arrangements, hella full of musicality and funk. It sounds like a dug-out 'time capsule classic' that never was to be (until now) - There's something in here for everybody, there's pace, there's humour & theatre in here, there's also grit & subtle punch, there's even a bit of steppers in there I'd say, if you listen closely. Kiren has a restrained type of catchiness that'll have you coming back for repeat listens, again and again...

Whenever this goes back on the turntable, it feels like saying hello to an old friend again. Give it a listen and see for yourself.

"The unreleased 1984 follow-up to the groundbreaking albums Kakashi and Mariah's Utakata No Hibi, Kiren is Yasuaki Shimizu's work for experimental dance music. Employing cutting edge production to create lush new wave soundscapes, it bridges the gap between his early 80s recordings and his later work with the Saxophonettes, filling a key lost chapter in his discography. "

Served in picture sleeve, with full liner notes in English and Japanese, by Chee Shimizu.
