Issue 6 of the legendary Small Axe reggae fanzine -

This one is a 50 page special on one of the most legendary deejays to come out of Kingston in the late 60's and early 70's - U ROY!

"Small Axe is the name of the Reggae fanzine published by Ray Hurford in East London. The first issue was published on September 29th 1978 and featured Augustus Pablo and Gregory Isaacs. The magazine was a xeroxed publication consisting of A4 papers folded in half - A5 and stapled. There were 28 issues released on to September/October 1989 when the last Small Axe was released. The magazine however got revived in the 90's again, and five more issues were published."

Ray Hurford stated once that »Small Axe started not out of love, but out of a hatred for the rock music press in this country.« referring to magazines such as NME and Sounds that he felt presented a bad picture of reggae"

Always nice to have some physical reading at hand, away from the screens and for a more palpable way of entertainment and gaining knowledge.
If you know about U Roy already, then this zine will excite you enough to check this already - if not, then we would like to invite you to take a look at this little book and find out more about one of the artists that was there from the start, a loud & proud protagonist in Kingston's early wave of roots, reggae & rocksteady artists, with a legacy that reaches far beyond the Island and even informed the birth of Rap in no small way
U Roy is the name behind many hits (he even wrote a song called Small Axe... enough said) and a true veteran of the scene - no two ways about it.

50 page zine, full of pics, text and reggae history!
