Roots rockin, interstellar early 80's dubwise excursions from Dennis Bovell's 'Matumbi' -

Matumbi were early pioneers of authentic UK produced Reggae, and big in the late 70's and 80's, when Dennis Bovell was on the rise with his first successful band.

Nowadays, D.Bovell is a name that commands respect from many angles in the music industry, someone that has worked with artists as important such as Linton Kwesi Johnson, Fela Kuti, Madness and post-punk legends The Slits & Pop Group...

And shortly after this here 'Dub Planet Orbit' record was made, Dennis Bovell also scored the soundtrack for the cult classic 80's film about the struggles of a black-british soundsystem crew in London titled 'Babylon' (great film, in case you haven't seen it).
You can hear a similar approach the the reggae sound in this record, as you hear in that iconic soundtrack too - his trademark 'big & wide' & very musically accomplished dub sound that he engineers with a keen ear and a lot of technical expertise.

This Matumbi LP first got released in 1980, and it's now been reissued via Japan's Dub Store -
beautifully remastered and sounding better than ever.
Across six cuts, three per side, this is a masterfully executed record, full of depth, in both sound and musicality.
