A very welcome reissue of one of Keith Hudson’s finest records, re-presented on the Basic Channel sub label headed up by none other than Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus.

Originally on shelves back in 1974, ‘Flesh Of My Skin, Blood Of My Blood’ is easily on a par with his infamous ‘Pick A Dub’ album from 1970. The most noticeable difference here though is how dense and claustrophobic the mixes are, instilling a real sense of dread, the blown out bass work of Leroy Sibble’s only adding to the atmosphere. The opening track ‘Hunting’ shows this best - opening with a boom and running into the red for the duration - one of the joys of analog production methods, the happy accidents which add a certain flavour to the recording.

Of all 12 tracks on offer here, the four instrumental cuts display his skill on the boards while the remaining 8 showcase his unique lyrics and wordplay.

A must for your record shelf this one.
