Parris has consistently proven himself to be a master of the spartan arrangement. No matter what form his musical excusrsions take, they're all unified by a dub-indebted ethos that places his music comfortably within British Dance Music tradition.

After acclaimed and immensely forward-thinking 12s on labels like Hemlock, Idle Hands and Ancient Monarchy, Parris makes his debut on Trilogy Tapes with 2 Vultures - four bits of leftfield dancefloor perfection that span a hefty assembly of styles, all rooted in a hybridised techno framework. Lionel's Dub leads the single, and as the name suggests, is pretty much a traditionally focussed dub track, replete with a walking bassline, a couple of melodic elements, some drums, and very little else save for the masterful use of reverb and delay (in true dubwise fashion).

On the flip lies title track and O$VMV$M collab 2 Vultures alongside another avian-concerned cut, Hanging With The Birds. The former turns heads with its heavily pitched-down tom samples and lo-fi arpeggiations which contort and flutter through a series of extreme pitch ranges. In other hands they could almost sound euphoric, but of course here their effect is more ambiguous, never crescendoing into a moment of climax. Instead, they cycle through their various pitches with an unconcerned regularity, mirroring the unhurried but deliberate nature of the music surrounding. Last of all is the wonderful Hanging With The Birds, where Parris' as-ever sparse drums leave room for the polyphony of birdsong to cultivate an airy, organic feeling atmosphere that elevates the otherwise sub-heavy elements to looming heights.
