Brand new 7" project from Andy  Mac & Catrina Davies... Stone King!

Lovely 45' from singer/songwriter Catrina Davies alongside our good friend Andy Mac, who has been navigating the shifting sands of underground  music in recent years, with releases on labels such as Punch Drunk, Idle Hands and Trilogy Tapes (As 'Zennor' with Peverelist).

Sleeping Rough was initially inspired by Gregory Isaacs' One More Time, which Catrina inherited on vinyl from the man she wrote the song about. This version, which features top musicians Stephen Childs, Lucy Shaw and Jake Painter, on keys, double bass and trumpet, owes as much to Cuba and Colombia as it does to Jamaica, reflecting Catrina's ever-growing box of 45s. It was recorded in a granite pigshed near Land's End.

Catrina Davies writes and sings about love, loss, surfing and ecological obliteration. Her first book ‘The Ribbons Are For Fearlessness’ (published by Summersdale) is a non-fiction novel about busking from Norway to Portugal with her cello. Sleeping Rough is taken from The Ribbons EP, a collection of songs designed to illustrate the book.

Andy Mac's ROUGH DUB strips the song back to the bass and rhythm and swirls the other elements around the mix with washes of tape delay and spring reverb, leaving plenty of space and steadily building up the momentum, an exercise in restraint - beautifully evoking the contrasts and dynamics of this organic, musically rich production.

For all the 45rpm lovers of outernational dubwise, this one's a bit of a beauty if you ask us!

Vinyl-only edition of 200.
