Another f*ckin' gem from the one DJ Persuasion, back at the controls with another era-specific, highest grade Jungle & DnB mix -

Between 1996 and 1997 Metalheadz seminal Sunday Sessions reinvented drum and bass as renegade basement music speckled with flecks of jazz, rare groove and Detroit techno, creating an invincible legacy for itself which lives on to this day in myth and hearsay.

Meanwhile though another Headz night, at Holborn's Leisure Lounge, was taking place monthly, providing a different experience. Whereas at Blue Note the explosive drops of tracks like Cybotron featuring Dillinja - Light Years and Grooverider's remix of Goldie - Kemistry dominated, at Leisure Lounge the deep complex breakbeat science of Source Direct, the intricate dub workouts of Digital and Spirit (r.i.p), and occasionally the first time experiments of dnb producers from Europe and further afield would get a look in.

Its an oft-overlooked fact that the deeper side of the Metalheadz sound, the side epitomised by the label rather than the scene anthems made famous at the Blue Note parties, didn't see heavy rotation in the clubs and so Leisure Lounge was somewhat unique in providing a space where those tracks could take hold.

For his third outing on cassette following contributions to Blackest Ever’s ID Mud series and the Tape-Echo cassette-series, DJ Persuasion addresses the lesser known of Metalheadz London parties, which took place on monthly Saturdays between 1996 and 1997 at Holborn’s Leisure Lounge Club, as the theme for this mix.
