Picked up at around 4am whilst drunkenly returning to the house we were kindly hosted at in Kyiv (hi Alina & Forma Formanta!) after getting a heavy recommendation from Lola (aka Strange Wife / Obscure bookings big boss) -

We then of course took some copies of this one for our return travels to RWDFWD HQ, with blind faith - and we have absolutely no regrets at all.

This album gets deep into our bones and flesh. Seeping into our brainweb llike a thick cloud of opiated smog - potent and overwhelming, perfecly sedative, once you inhale there's no turning back... Once you enter the vortex of Forma Formanta's 'Zahid' you'll be plunged into its depths, drifting with its current...

"Zahid, the debut album of Kyiv-based darkwave project Forma Formanta, reflects the experience of losing some foundation, an axis, a support, something that can be figuratively or metaphysically called one's "home." The causes of this loss are seen not only in war, but also in the general state of turbulence and a rapidly increasing degree of entropy.

Memories of this "home" have murky, unclear, yet at the same time warm and peaceful outlines. It's similar to the feeling of waking up in the morning and trying to recall a dream, but failing to remember the details, and the blank spots are filled with fantasy. The further you go, the more clear memories fade and are replaced by imagination. This is what the sound attempts to convey—raw, muted, floating, in which individual elegiacal, simple melodies sometimes appear and then disappear into the background."

We have one handful of copies of these here in Bristol now, and there are only 50 in total - nab this tape if you want some crucial, and recent kyiv underground music made during a very hard time amidst the bombings, the shattered glass and the disrupted nights, the daily life effects of recent years of russian aggression in Ukrainian territory - an inescapable reality for those living inside the nightmare, where making music becomes an even more urgent part of an urge for life and survival, a catalyst of sorts in the search and the hope and the struggle for freedom, and expression.
