Big don unkle g aka Gavsborg is from Kingston, currently residing in Berlin a founding member of JA's Equiknoxx crew, here laying down a power hour (in a real smooth way) for his new Cassette Blair imprint, operating out of Berlin city, promoting, to our ears, a kind of 'worldwide kingston' sound.

Kicking off this promising new series which he casually describes as '1hr of music' with a mission to bring in 'artists from near & far' whilst here also casually giving it the 'my debut album' tag - Gavsborg's 1 Hour Service is an effortlessly flowing stream of absolutely wicked&bad bubblers, understated big tunes, warped melodic hooks loosely building on a kind of skeletal & futurist take counting in generations of dancehall sound & beatless synth/sampledelia explorations - we find deep soulful moods, low slung melancholia, a love song for his son (shouts to Tayo) big basslines and 'broken beat' rhythms - sounding experimental and highly original, but also addictively catchy and open, inviting even.
To put it short, it's an addictive listen which'll get you hooked right in from start to finish. No doubt.

.The 1 Hour Service is produced & built by Gavsborg but he brings in extra voices and players of instruments from his circle of friends too. Vocalists Shiny People, Donai Singleton & Camar & Kat7 appear on the album, and we hear additional synth parts from Franklyn “Bubbler” Waul as well as Synth, Bass & Guitar parts from Tóke and even some Brass sections from Everol “Stingwray” Wray on the near-final track, number 14.

... What can we say?! Gavsborg (&gang) gets a 5* rating for this service, from us.

Speedy delivery, excellently packaged and perfectly working box contents. And not least for providing music that at times shines super brightly then shimmers with a eyes-down mystery, full of explorative intrigue in sound and melody, anchored in that heavyweight 'smile&screwface' kingston style dancehall / drum & bass dubwise sound but never needing to be obvious about it - the loose but lavish style & approach to the music speaks in volumes already.

This one will sound good wherever' you play it - according to Gavsborg that could be the local train or the '32 bus to Duhaney Park in Kingston' - in our case, we're currently writing this one sat on the National Express (natty express?) from London to Bristol, on route back from a trip to Berlin, where we managed to catch Gavsborg and get handed the last of these fine tapes directly, during walk & talk, before he darted off again to bring his son a cinnamon donut.
