Monochrome excursions on now-Bristol-based Derelicht from Killawatt, along with Sergie Rezza and Ossia on remix duty -

Since moving to his new strain of noisy, hybrid techno, Killawatt's been a busy man. He's released a killer (ha) album on Osiris Music along with a couple of EPs in the interim that have all explored a similar aesthetic, propped up by his modular set up and unique approach to rhythm and sound design.

Our favourite original has got to be Okinawa - crawling along at 117bpm, it captures a real sense of dread that Mr Watt has brilliantly carried forward from his earlier work, marrying it to a deftly manipulated vocal sample and a brutally powerful sub.

Loaded up on the flip, we have the grittier, rolling technoid style reworkings by Sergie Rezza, but we have to give special mentions to Ossia's remix, not that we're at all biased.... This is U.K. techno done properly, capturing the dread of the original but putting the bassline in bounce mode and stripping back the percussive section to give the elements room to breathe. Howls of noise fill the newly created space, and this track further cements our boy's reputation as a unique and fresh voice in what can occasionally feel like a cluttered scene. It's also nice to see the music flying further afield and making it into a suitable club setting - watch out for the tune in Mumdance's upcoming sets...
