Luca Lozano - Gun Fingers
Luca Lozano is back and on top form for Hypercolour with the Gunfingers EP.
Draping 808-state indebted pads over a chunky broken beat and rotund bass, the title track well up for party time and manages to reference old-skool styles without sounding pastiche, hints of Afrika Bambaataa at work here to lock yer body right into the the robotic groove.
Second up is ‘Calling All Dancers’ which deploys Sheffields finest bleeps over the Funky Drummer and killer bass sweeps - A tried and tested combination that is infinitely danceable.
If you caught his ‘Fantasy FM’ tape earlier this year you’ll no doubt be well up to speed on the vibe at work here and hip to the myriad of tropes that are skilfully reworked for the now.
Sotofett flips the samples differently for his remixes - The ‘Massive’ remix turns the original into a nervous, twitching monster of a speed garage track, laced with classic jungle atmospheres and tight delays.
The relentless 4x4 stomp of the appropriately titled ‘Gurn Redouble Riddim mix’ closes things off in militant stylee - one for all the true soldiers out there in the small hours.
