fresh, and free-flowing musical offerings from memotone, back on Accidental Meetings like a cool summer breeze on a blistering hot day, or perhaps better put 'Warm Shadows'.

memotone has delivered a wide palette of uniquely dubbed out jazz and fourth world experiments and modern folk music type drifts for labels such as World of Echo, The Trilogy Tapes, Sähkö Recordings, Patience/Impatience & Black Acre, and of course Accidental Meetings (Clever Dog still gets regular plays inside the RWDFWD HQ), and this latest piece is chock-full of sonic depth, and as musically rich as ever... Not least due to collaborations with Lithuanian artist Ugné Uma, Jabu’s guest and percussionist, Typesun. 

Warm Shadows lets the open space shine in between well-tuned percussion, delicate backdrops of guitar, clarinet and filtered electronics. At times unfolding in slow motion, or sometimes flickering past like pages of a book in the wind, creating a show of motion that feels grounded yet free.

From the subtle interplay of tension and release on Laimèti Pavyksta, with Ugné Uma's vocals sprawling effortlessly between chords and percs, through to the glassy chords and metallic, brittle rhythms and sparse zaps that lurk in the echo chamber below stretched sting notes on the following track 'One Winged Bird' - this album will take you into it's realms effortlessly - a proper strong mood, full of tune and harmonic richnesss, without ever feeling over-bearing or desperate for attention. 

Things take a slant into underwater pop territory (we just made that term up) with Jabu's guest (aka Jasmine) on vocals, alongside memotone, on 'Round The Bend', proper wholesome drift, this one.
The watery vibe goes more cavernous with 'On Living' where memotone let's rhodes and reverberated guitar drift over raw, shuffling drum tracks from Typesun, rearing it's head back into sunnier (or perhaps sunset?) moods with the next track 'For The Feral' - which features Type Sun's percussive sheen once again, this time on a decidedly more jazzy, blue note type tip.

As we enter the final two tracks, things get heavily emotional with undulating reverberations and delicate high frequencies, as strings and pitched guitars call & respond in the depths, under a song from Ugné Uma that feels like it's whispered into your ears, like a lullaby tale - proper soothing, and heart wrenching at once.
By the time we enter the psychedelic stage of the final cut 'Freedom', we're down in the well of thought and pensive reflection. Where your thoughts took you will be your won personal thing, but the conclusion on a broader scale, on a simple level, is that this album could stand up alongside many classics of jazz, down-beat and dubwise ambient-folk musics in years to come.. A masterclass of jazz-not-jazz, for deeper listeners, served with a west country tinge.
