A slice of underground Bristol post-punk history  -

Mouth may be little known to some, but they were right in there in the Bristolian musical map of the 80's, skirting around alongside bands such as Pigbag, 'Rip, Rig & Panic' and Pop Group around the time of the legendary Dug Out club, house parties and underground ventures. A time in which Post-Punk, the early foundations of Hip-hop and the rich lineage of afro-caribbean soundsystem culture spawned the kind of vague, but apparent Bristolian sonic continuation that still resonates within the city to this day.
Wild Bunch, Smith & Mighty, Pinch, Peverelist, Young Echo and so on...

A short lived project of just 3 releases, Mouth trail-blazed post-punk jams in the rich vain of Liquid Liquid and ESG but in their own dub&jazz-indebted, rhythmically freeform way. Centred around the cultural melting pot of the St Paul's district, it's pubs, clubs and blues parties threw together young and old to the sounds of dub, funk, jazz and soul and took the spark lit by punk rock and new wave and spawned music that still resonates today, take the heavy kick-snare-hi-hat shuffle of the opener for example - not too far off a Digital Mystikz, Rob Smith / RSD or maybe even Regis drum pattern of modern age.

This LP represents a culmination of their best work including the titular Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea which is, definitely the stand out tune here, but the rest of the record is absolutely brilliant as well.

We suspect these will shift fast - reissues don't come around like this very often, and when they do, it's a real treat to see them off to good homes.
