Yes yes, nice to get our hands on some original press 1999 copies of this one-and-only release from Sista Ruby.... Woman Deejay in the place!

Produced by original JA-LDN don Dr Alimantado back in the days - with Macka B on bass guitar (pretty sure anyway!) - Sista Ruby - a jamaican living in England - recorded this top-a-top, full-of-life dancehall LP for Keyman Records around 20 years ago, but then she went quiet....
As far as we can see from a recent interview with a Jamaican newspaper, it's because she was frustrated with the music industry, so she continued on other aspects of life instead....
But, on this info-search, we also found out she travelled to Jamaica in recent years to record some new tracks alongside George 'Dusty' Miller of Firehouse Crew... Good news.

Anyway - back to the subject - this wicked & wild 'Woman DJ' album with Sista Ruby going cool & deadly over a heap of lively rhythms - kicking off with the title track, telling about how female deejays need to be extra tough & original on the mic, and conscious of navigating a 'man's world', with an encouraging message about how this is even more reason to step forward as a woman DJ and show how it can be done.
Agreed. Big tune.

Next up, we have her self-titled anthem 'Ruby Rock', which is then followed by a good ol' ganja tune - Gimmi Ganja - 'me nah want no hashish - it's only sensimelia mek me lyrics flourish' - you can never go wrong a with a good ganja tune, and Sista Ruby does a great rendition.

To balance out the high energy numbers, there are also some slower-paced one-drop reggae tracks and lean 90s dancehall riddims on the disc, such as 'Teach Me Rastaman', 'Think And Wanda', and the upbeat 'Dance Ina Mount Zion' -

Upful vibes throughout with Sista Ruby holding her own on the mic with a real persuasive ease, keeping the vibes high for each of the cuts.
Overall, this one does the trick real nicely.
Across 9 tracks, Sista Ruby keeps up the pace, riding different tempos and dancehall styles - perfect for your summer turntable selections, if you ask us >>

Real nice sleeve art too
