The Jamaican Version! -

We love a record with a good story to it, and this is one of those....

That story is told on the back of the sleeve, no point in shifting the words around any more, so we'll just quote the sleeve and let you see for yourself!

'Lee's riposte, Perry's revenge, Scratch's vengeance, this album was born out of spite. You might already know the original 'The Good, The Bad And The Upsetters' released on Trojan in 1970, with the sombrero and poncho clad Jamaican cowboys brandishing revolvers in the Lee Van Cleef style that was briefly de rigeur.
Well this isn't it, that was the UK version, this is the Jamaican version, a much wilder excursion than it's more western predecessor. The Uk version took the Upsetters name but Lee Perry wasn't involved at any stage of the production. Riled by the release of what he deemed not to be a true Upsetters album, Perry hit back by releasing his own version in Jamaica with completely different tracks but with the same Spaghetti Western record sleeve and a sticker covering the old track list with the new.
Consider it a trans-Atlantic duel, a volleyed response back at the Man.

Produced in limited quantities this Jamaican edition was cast on to the scrap heap of time, known by few and owned by even fewer and is reissued from obscurity for the first time. Over 12 instrumental masterpieces that would manifest as the '70s went along. Listen to the ping-ponging rudimentary synth sounds that plip and plop from earhole to earhole, the ganja that makes one stumble over the gutter, the stuttering skanks of a Model T Ford running out of fuel and the pump and breathe of a Hoover long in need of emptying. It's rough, ready and totally idiosyncratic. Perhaps the most nonchalant sounding retaliation of all time. Take the record out of the holster and fire at 20 paces.
Ding Ding, Round 2."
