Wayne Smith's original 'Under Me Sleng Teng' -
The tune that kicked off the 'digital explosion', with Prince Jammy's casiotone mt-40 indebted Sleng Teng riddim, released back in 1985, this basically marked the beginning of the 'computerized' evolution of early 80's dancehall in Kingston Jamaica, and soon after in London, NYC too. Not long after, Prince Jammy was crowned King.

If you haven't heard this tune before, you may have been living under a rock, or perhaps had your ears tuned into some very different sounds all your life (also fair).

Wayne Smith's is hella catchy, but of course that infectious bassline has a big part to play too...
An interesting background story is, that the bassline preset was programmed by a female japanese inventor and musicologist called Okuda Hiroko around 1980 for the 'Rock' setting on the casio keyboard which Prince Jammy made famous in Kingston a few years later. Rumour has it, that Okuda was a reggae fan too.. It's a small world!

Vocal on top, and the instrumental dub on the flip. Sleng again.
